How Often Should I Take REACTINE®?

Allergies are particles that irritate the immune system, triggering an overreaction against substances that are generally harmless, such as plant pollen1. Allergies create uncomfortable and bothersome symptoms, and people often use allergy medication such as REACTINE® to combat these symptoms.

What is a Histamine?

Histamine is a natural chemical produced by your body and is important in helping your body with its daily function2,3. Histamines often get a bad reputation as the culprit of your allergy symptoms. While your body does this to defend itself, the overreaction can lead to symptoms like itchy and watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing and itchy nose or throat. Click here to learn more about histamines and the symptoms they cause.

How do Antihistamines Work?

As the name suggests, antihistamines work by blocking histamines from attaching to histamine receptors. This action helps prevent inflammation and stop allergy symptoms before they start.4 Antihistamines are available as over-the-counter (OTC) medications and are made by multiple brands. Reactine® is the most recommended OTC option allergy sufferers turn to for symptomatic relief of indoor and outdoor allergens, including hay fever, mold, dust mites, pollen, pet dander and more.

Can I Take Reactine® Every Day?

During allergy season, you can rely on Reactine® by taking it once daily, any time of day for symptom relief. However, you should not depend solely on Reactine® or continue to take it daily outside of allergy season, unless directed by your doctor. Reactine® should be taken according to it’s label and should not be used for anaphylactic allergic reactions or as a replacement for epinephrine6.

If you’re looking to find a Reactine® product for your regular allergy use, you can choose from a wide variety, like Reactine Rapid Dissolve, Reactine Complete Sinus + Allergy, or Reactine Extra Strength. These OTC products are also conveniently available in various formats like liquid gels, tablets or liquids, so you can be sure to take Reactine® with you wherever you’re headed.

What Should I Do If Reactine® Doesn’t Work?

In some cases, you may be able to find symptom relief by increasing the antihistamine’s strength. In this case, Reactine® Extra Strength may provide relief as you switch over from Reactine® Regular Strength. To monitor results, consider keeping an allergy diary to track your body’s response to allergens after switching dosage/strength in your allergy medication.

If you feel as though you are not getting the desired results from taking Reactine®, work with your doctor to see what works best for you. Together, you can develop a customized plan to effectively manage your allergies through the right prescription and dosage.

Summary

Reactine® is an OTC antihistamine allergy medication that can provide consistent relief during allergy season. Remember to consult your doctor or allergist if you are still unable to find symptom relief, or if your allergy symptoms worsen.
